Welcome to the Web site of Mesa Ridge Chesapeake Bay Retrievers. We are located sixty miles south of Denver in Colorado Springs, Colorado. We are not a kennel operation nor do we have frequent litters. All our dogs and litters live in our home and are considered family members.

Our first Chesapeake, Max, came into our lives in 1990 and at the time we had no idea that a dog (or breed) could capture our hearts like he did. We have carefully selected our dogs from the top Chesapeake breeders in the nation who share the same philosophy that we do...that the Chesapeake is and always should be a "dual purpose" breed.

First and foremost, health and temperament are at the top of our priority list. Our dogs come from lines that produce wonderful temperaments and also have a history of health certifications. We also continue the tradition of health testing with OFA (Orthopedic Foundation for Animals) CERF (Canine Eye Registry Foundation) and test for PRA (Progressive Retinal Atrophy), EIC (Exercise Induced Collapse) and DM (Degenerative Myelopathy). Our dogs go to work with us, they visit nursing homes/hospitals, travel with us and love to be the center of attention.

Form equals function. Without proper conformation (form) a dog might not be able to perform the job (function) it was bred to do or have the longevity to do it. We actively show our dogs in both local, National and American Chesapeake Club (ACC) supported entries and National Specialty shows. We are very proud of the accomplishments and titles our dogs have received in the breed ring.

One of many misconceptions people have is that if you show your Chesapeake, you can't hunt them...please don't tell our dogs this! We not only participate in AKC/HRC hunt tests but, hunt all our dogs as well. They all carry on the tradition of their ancestors with strong prey drive, willingness to please and are devoted hunting companions.

Please feel free to contact us should you have any further questions about the breed, upcoming litters or Chesapeake rescue/
